Match Results
A mixed bag of results across the weekend for the SBFNC! See below how each side faired.
FOOTBALL
Women's Football - The SBL Wolves kicked off their season on Saturday at home. The Reserves welcomed South Croydon up the mountain, and the match was fought out to the very end with the Doggies able to break away in the last quarter to win by 12 points after both sides were even at three-quarter time.
The Senior side took on Mount Evelyn and was taught a football lesson. Going down by 66 points is certainly a wake-up call for the standard of Premier Division Football. However the girls battled hard all day, and the margin was only 17 points at halftime before the Rovers took control of the game.
Men's Football - Our U19.5s had another tremendous win on the weekend this time accounting for Mulgrave. The young saints were dominate all day and showed the rest of the competition that they will be the team to beat!
The Reserves, however, were on the other side of the winner's list with a 44-point loss to Templestowe. With a limited bench, the Dockers were able to run away with the game.
Our Seniors kept their form in tact with a 10.19.79 to 5.4.34 victory over Templestowe. It wasn't all smooth sailing with our boys a little slow out of the blocks, kicking only 2 behinds for the first quarter to the Dockers 5.1. Needless to say, the side did a great job in limiting the Docker's score to 3 behinds after quarter time. Sam Brown was the leading goal scorer with 4, whilst Leigh Odermatt chimed in with 3 of his own. Smith, Peters and Silver were amongst the best.
Lastly, our Vets had their first game of the season against a strong Coldstream side. The old boys were good in patches throughout the game, however, with a few players dusting off the cobwebs, the Cougars easily ran away with the victory by 77-points.
Note: If you are 35 or over and would like to have a kick of the football, why not join our Veteran's team. Training one night a week on Wednesday @ 6:30 pm and playing every second week (with only 7 games left in the season) is a great way to stay fit and enjoy the game of football on a less serious level.
